Lucky for us, we already have this old
utility trailer and a gas-powered engine.
We just need the hydraulic parts!
I don't know about
this, Billy. Neither of us
know anything about
hydro stuff.
Yeah, if we want
to chop wood, let's
just borrow Frank's
machine.
Nonsense! Hydraulics are
easy to learn and apply!
And there's no way
we're giving Frank
the satisfaction.
Let's start with a list
of what's needed.
You might recall the parts
Frank listed off earlier.
A...cylinder?
Correct! We will need a
cylinder to drive the log
toward the splitting wedge.
That cylinder will have to
extend, retract, and come
to a stop. Which means we
will need a directional
control valve.
We will also need a pump
and a reservoir, because
every hydraulic system
has those.
Hm, what else. I know
I'm forgetting something...
Some other type of valve?
That's right! A relief
valve
. We will need it
to limit the max system
pressure and deal with
pressure spikes safely.
Now that we've listed all
our parts, let's draw our
system schematic.
